APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SUPPORTING UNICAST TRANSMISSION BETWEEN USER EQUIPMENTS IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18482630 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SUPPORTING UNICAST TRANSMISSION BETWEEN USER EQUIPMENTS IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for operating a terminal in a wireless communication system, specifically in the context of a 5th generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system. The method involves obtaining RLC (Radio Link Control) transmission mode and configuration information to determine the need for configuring a unicast session for a V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) service. The terminal then configures the unicast session with another terminal. If the terminal is within the coverage of a base station, it receives RLC transmission mode and configuration information from the base station. If the terminal is not within the coverage of a base station, it obtains pre-configured unicast session and RLC configuration information for each RLC transmission mode mapped to a V2X service.

  • The patent application describes a method for configuring a unicast session in a wireless communication system.
  • The method involves obtaining RLC transmission mode and configuration information.
  • The terminal configures the unicast session with another terminal.
  • If the terminal is within the coverage of a base station, it receives RLC transmission mode and configuration information from the base station.
  • If the terminal is not within the coverage of a base station, it obtains pre-configured unicast session and RLC configuration information for each RLC transmission mode mapped to a V2X service.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in 5G or pre-5G communication systems to support higher data transfer rates.
  • It can be used in V2X services, which involve communication between vehicles and other entities such as infrastructure or pedestrians.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The method solves the problem of configuring a unicast session for a V2X service in a wireless communication system.
  • It addresses the issue of determining the RLC transmission mode and configuration information based on the terminal's location in relation to a base station.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The method allows for efficient configuration of unicast sessions in a wireless communication system.
  • It enables seamless communication between terminals within the coverage of a base station and those outside the coverage.
  • The technology supports the implementation of high-speed data transfer in 5G or pre-5G communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosure relates to a 5th generation (5G) or a pre-5G communication system provided to support a higher data transfer rate than a system after a 4th generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). An operation method of a terminal in a wireless communication system includes: obtaining an RLC transmission mode and RLC configuration information in the process of determining a V2X service requiring configuration of a unicast session and configuring the unicast session with another terminal; if the terminal is determined to be in the coverage of a base station, receiving an RLC transmission mode and RLC configuration information from the base station; and if it is determined that the terminal is not located in a base station coverage, obtaining a pre-configured unicast session and pre-configured RLC configuration information for each RLC transmission mode, which is mapped to a V2X service.
