DETERMINING WAVEFORM FOR UPLINK TRANSMISSION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18477911 titled 'DETERMINING WAVEFORM FOR UPLINK TRANSMISSION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for enabling dynamic waveform switching in wireless communication systems by using predefined bits in downlink control information to determine the waveform for uplink transmissions.

  • Simplified Explanation:
 * Predefined bits in control information are used to switch waveforms for uplink transmissions.
 * Rules are applied to decide the purpose of the predefined bits.
 * Waveform selection for uplink transmission is based on the value of the predefined bits.
    • Potential Applications:**

This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, such as 5G networks, IoT devices, and satellite communications.

    • Problems Solved:**

1. Efficient utilization of resources in wireless networks. 2. Seamless switching between different waveforms for uplink transmissions.

    • Benefits:**

1. Improved flexibility and adaptability in wireless communication systems. 2. Enhanced performance and reliability of uplink transmissions. 3. Optimal utilization of available bandwidth and resources.

    • Potential Commercial Applications:**

Optimizing Uplink Waveform Selection in Wireless Communication Systems

    • Possible Prior Art:**

Prior art in the field of wireless communication systems may include methods for dynamic waveform switching based on different criteria such as signal quality, interference levels, or network congestion.

    • Unanswered Questions:**

1. How does the method handle scenarios where multiple predefined bits have conflicting purposes?

  - Answer: The patent application does not specify how conflicting purposes of multiple predefined bits are resolved in the waveform selection process.

2. What impact does the dynamic waveform switching have on the overall latency of uplink transmissions?

  - Answer: The patent application does not address the potential latency implications of dynamically switching waveforms for uplink transmissions.

Original Abstract Submitted

To enable at least dynamic waveform switching, at least one predefined bit, in a downlink control information comprising scheduling information for at least one uplink transmission, may have a first preset purpose and a second preset purpose. One or more preset first rules may be applied to determine whether to use the at least one predefined bit for the first preset purpose or for the second preset purpose. When the second preset purpose is used, at least a waveform for the at least one uplink transmission amongst waveforms comprising at least a first waveform and a second waveform is determined, according to one or more preset second rules, based on a value of the at least one predefined bit. The waveform determined is then used in the uplink transmission scheduled.
