The present disclosure relates to a pre-5-Generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates Beyond 4-Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, a method for operating a user equipment (UE) supporting carrier aggregation (CA) with a master cell group (MCG) and a secondary cell group (SCG) in a wireless communication system is provided. The method comprising: detecting a radio link failure (RLF) of the MCG; when the RLF of the MCG is detected, determining whether a transmission to the SCG is suspended; and when the transmission to the SCG is determined to be suspended, initiating a connection re-establishment procedure.
