LICENSE MANAGEMENT FOR SOFTWARE DEFINED SILICON - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18474081 titled 'LICENSE MANAGEMENT FOR SOFTWARE DEFINED SILICON
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture for implementing license management solutions for software-defined silicon (SDSi) products. Some of the example license management solutions include virtual resource migration, resource configuration management, hardware self-configuration, reduced footprint agents, license transfer in response to failures, node-locked license transfer, community license generation, expirable licenses, non-node-locked licenses via blockchain, and activating hardware features with pre-generated hardware licenses.
- Virtual resource migration using SDSi
- Resource configuration management using SDSi
- Hardware self-configuration using SDSi
- Reduced footprint agents using SDSi
- License transfer in response to failures
- Node-locked license transfer
- Community license generation
- Expirable licenses
- Non-node-locked licenses via blockchain
- Activating hardware features with pre-generated hardware licenses
Potential Applications
The technology described in the patent application could be applied in various industries such as telecommunications, data centers, cloud computing, and IoT devices.
Problems Solved
The technology addresses issues related to license management, resource allocation, hardware configuration, and license transfer in SDSi products.
Benefits
The benefits of this technology include improved efficiency in resource management, enhanced security in license transfer, simplified hardware configuration, and optimized utilization of SDSi products.
Potential Commercial Applications
Potential commercial applications of this technology include licensing software-defined silicon products, managing resources in virtual environments, securing hardware features, and optimizing license utilization in various industries.
Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art could be traditional license management systems that do not specifically cater to software-defined silicon products. Another could be hardware-based license activation systems that may not be as flexible or efficient as the solutions described in the patent application.
Unanswered Questions
1. How does the technology handle license management in complex network environments with multiple SDSi products? 2. What are the scalability limitations of the license management solutions proposed in the patent application?
Original Abstract Submitted
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture (e.g., physical storage media) to implement license management solutions for software defined silicon (SDSi) products are disclosed. Example license management solutions disclosed herein include, but are not limited to, virtual resource migration using SDSi, resource configuration management using SDSi, hardware self-configuration using SDSi, reduced footprint agents using SDSi, performing SDSi usage evaluation and corresponding license transfer responsive to detected and/or predicted failures, transferring node locked SDSi licenses, transfer of SDSi licenses without a trusted license server, community license generation, expirable SDSi licenses via a reliable clock, non-node locked licenses via blockchain, and activating hardware features with a pre-generated hardware license.
