ANTENNA AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18470038 titled 'ANTENNA AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic device with a front cover, rear cover, array antenna, and a support member. The support member has a conductive first portion forming the lateral appearance of the device, a second portion adjacent to the array antenna and front cover, and a third portion made of non-conductive material adjacent to the array antenna, rear cover, and conductive first portion. The conductive first portion is exposed to the outside, while the second and third portions are hidden by the covers. The array antenna emits a beam through at least one opening filled with non-conductive material and the third portion.

  • The electronic device has a unique design with a conductive first portion forming its lateral appearance.
  • The support member provides structural support and houses the array antenna.
  • The front and rear covers hide the second and third portions of the support member.
  • The array antenna emits a beam that is radiated to the outside through the at least one opening and the third portion.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile devices: This design can be applied to smartphones, tablets, or other portable electronic devices to enhance their wireless communication capabilities.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices: The array antenna can be used in various IoT devices to improve their connectivity and range.
  • Wearable technology: This design can be incorporated into smartwatches, fitness trackers, or other wearable devices to optimize their wireless performance.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Improved wireless communication: The array antenna and the design of the support member help enhance the device's wireless capabilities, ensuring better connectivity and signal strength.
  • Structural integrity: The support member provides structural support to the device while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced wireless performance: The array antenna and the design of the support member allow for improved wireless communication, resulting in better connectivity and signal quality.
  • Sleek design: The conductive first portion forming the lateral appearance of the device gives it a unique and visually appealing look.
  • Durable construction: The support member ensures the structural integrity of the device, making it more resistant to damage.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a front cover, a rear cover, an array antenna, and a support member. The support member includes a conductive first portion forming a lateral appearance of the electronic device, a second portion adjacent to the array antenna, the front cover, and the conductive first portion, and having at least one opening filled with a non-conductive material, and a third portion including a non-conductive material and disposed adjacent to the array antenna, the rear cover, and the conductive first portion. The conductive first portion is exposed to an outside of the electronic device, and the second and third portions are hidden by the front and rear covers. A beam formed by the array antenna is radiated to the outside through the at least one opening and the third portion.
