IMAGE READING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18468919 titled 'IMAGE READING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The image reading apparatus described in the patent application includes a guide member that guides a medium by bringing it into contact with a contact surface of a medium placement portion that can be displaced between two positions, each forming a different inclination angle with respect to a placement surface. The guide member moves in conjunction with the medium placement portion, transitioning between the two positions as the medium is moved from an opening position to an accommodation position and vice versa.

  • Guide member for medium placement
  • Medium placement portion with adjustable inclination angles

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in:

  • Document scanners
  • Photocopiers
  • Printers

Problems Solved

  • Ensures accurate placement of medium for scanning or printing
  • Helps prevent jams or misalignments

Benefits

  • Improved image quality
  • Increased efficiency in document processing

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing document processing in various industries

Possible Prior Art

No prior art known at this time.

Unanswered Questions

The patent application does not provide detailed information on the mechanism behind the guide member's movement.

What materials are used in the construction of the guide member and medium placement portion?

The patent application does not specify the materials used in the components of the image reading apparatus.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image reading apparatus includes a guide member that guides a medium by bringing the medium into contact with a contact surface of a medium placement portion is displaceable between a first position at which the contact surface forms a first inclination angle with respect to a placement surface when viewed in a width direction and a second position at which the contact surface forms a second inclination angle with respect to the placement surface when viewed in the width direction, the guide member moves from a first position to a second position as the medium placement portion moves from an opening position to an accommodation position, and moves from the second position to the first position as the medium placement portion moves from the accommodation position to the opening position.
