METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OUTER PANEL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18467346 titled 'METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OUTER PANEL

Simplified Explanation

The method for manufacturing an outer panel described in the patent application involves a laser light irradiation process on the inner side of a steel sheet to bend it at a first angle, followed by a hemming process to bend the steel sheet at a second angle smaller than the first angle.

  • Laser light irradiation process on inner side of steel sheet
  • Bending steel sheet at a first angle
  • Hemming process performed after laser irradiation
  • Bending steel sheet at a second angle smaller than the first angle

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in the automotive industry for manufacturing outer panels of vehicles.

Problems Solved

This method helps in shortening the takt time for manufacturing outer panels while also increasing design flexibility.

Benefits

- Shortened manufacturing time - Increased design options - Improved efficiency in the production process

Potential Commercial Applications

One potential commercial application of this technology is in automotive manufacturing for producing outer panels of vehicles.

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to laser processing of metal sheets for bending, but specific information on similar methods is not provided in the patent application.

Original Abstract Submitted

To provide a method for manufacturing an outer panel in which takt time is shortened and of high designability. A method for manufacturing an outer panel performing a hemming process according to the present disclosure includes; performing a laser light irradiation process on an inner side of a steel sheet that serves as an outer panel to bend the steel sheet at a first angle, the laser light being irradiated along a ridgeline of a center part of a bend radius of the steel sheet, and performing the hemming process on the steel sheet at a timing that is after the laser irradiation process to bend the steel sheet at a second angle smaller than the first angle.
