SHEET FEEDING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18466035 titled 'SHEET FEEDING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The paper feed device described in the abstract includes various components such as a paper-feed cassette, rail member, engaging portion, rotating member, shaft member, and supporting member. Here is a simplified explanation of the patent application:

  • Paper-feed cassette designed to be inserted into a cassette accommodation unit
  • Rail member located inside the cassette accommodation unit
  • Engaging portion that interacts with the rail member to enable movement
  • Rotating member that contacts the engaging portion's surface and rotates during cassette insertion and removal
  • Shaft member that pivotally supports the rotating member
  • Supporting member that can change its attachment posture relative to the rail member or inner wall
      1. Potential Applications:

- Printers - Photocopiers - Scanners

      1. Problems Solved:

- Efficient paper feeding - Easy cassette insertion and removal

      1. Benefits:

- Smooth operation - Reduced chances of paper jams

      1. Potential Commercial Applications:
        1. Optimizing Paper Feed Mechanisms in Office Equipment
      1. Possible Prior Art:

- Similar mechanisms used in existing paper feed devices

        1. Unanswered Questions:
        2. How does the engaging portion interact with the rail member?

The engaging portion likely has a mechanism that allows it to slide along the rail member for smooth movement.

        1. What materials are used in the construction of the paper-feed cassette?

The paper-feed cassette may be made of durable plastic or metal to withstand repeated use.

Original Abstract Submitted

A paper feed device includes a paper-feed cassette configured to be removably inserted to a cassette accommodation unit, a rail member provided at an inner wall of the cassette accommodation unit, an engaging portion to engage with the rail member so as to be able to move, a rotating member configured to be brought into contact with an engagement surface of the engaging portion and be able to rotate in association with insertion and removal of the paper-feed cassette, a shaft member configured to pivotally support the rotating member and have one end fixed to the rail member or an inner wall of the cassette accommodation unit, and a supporting member configured to support another end of the shaft member. The supporting member is shaped so as to be able to change an attachment posture relative to the rail member or the inner wall.
