Beam Management in Multi-TRP Operation - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18465356 titled 'Beam Management in Multi-TRP Operation

Simplified Explanation

A cell is responsible for managing the transmission and reception of signals for a user equipment (UE). In this patent application, the cell transmits two groups of multiple reference signals to the UE through different transmission reception points (TRPs). The UE selects one beam from each group of reference signals, and the cell then uses these selected beams to transmit downlink data to the UE.

  • The cell transmits multiple reference signals to the UE through different TRPs.
  • The UE selects one beam from each group of reference signals.
  • The cell uses the selected beams to transmit downlink data to the UE.

Potential Applications:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Cellular networks
  • 5G and beyond technologies

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient beam management for UE in wireless communication systems
  • Optimizing signal transmission and reception for improved data transfer

Benefits:

  • Enhanced signal quality and reliability for UE
  • Improved data transmission efficiency
  • Better utilization of available network resources

Original Abstract Submitted

A cell performs beam management operations for a user equipment (UE). The cell transmits a first group of multiple reference signals via a first transmission reception point (TRP) to a user equipment (UE), transmits a second group of multiple reference signals via a second different TRP to the UE, receives an indication that the UE has selected a first beam associated with one of the multiple reference signals of the first group and a second beam associated with one of the multiple reference signals of the second group and transmits downlink data to the UE using the first beam and the second beam.
