ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR IMAGE GENERATION, AND OPERATING METHOD OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18461123 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR IMAGE GENERATION, AND OPERATING METHOD OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

An electronic device described in this patent application includes a camera with a limited field of view. The device also has at least one processor connected to the camera. The processor is capable of performing several functions:

  • Acquiring a first background image with a larger field of view by allowing the camera to change its direction while taking photos.
  • Capturing a second background image using the camera, which corresponds to the limited field of view and includes a subject positioned within it.
  • Generating a composite image by combining a portion of the first background image and a portion of the second background image based on the distance between the subject and a designated position in the second background image.
  • Creating an image that includes the composite image and the subject.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Photography: This technology allows for capturing images with a wider field of view than the camera's original capabilities, providing more context and detail in the final image.
  • Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR): The ability to generate composite images can be useful in creating immersive VR or AR experiences by seamlessly blending real and virtual elements.
  • Surveillance systems: This technology can enhance surveillance systems by capturing a wider area in the background image and combining it with the subject of interest, improving situational awareness.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Limited field of view: The camera's limited field of view can restrict the amount of information captured in an image. This technology overcomes this limitation by combining images with different fields of view.
  • Contextualization: By including a wider background image, the subject of interest can be better contextualized, providing more information and enhancing the overall understanding of the image.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced image composition: The ability to generate composite images improves the composition of the final image by including a wider background and the subject of interest.
  • Improved situational awareness: In applications such as surveillance systems, the wider field of view provided by this technology can enhance situational awareness and improve decision-making.
  • Immersive experiences: For VR and AR applications, the seamless blending of real and virtual elements in the composite image can create more immersive and realistic experiences.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device according to the present disclosure comprises: a camera having a first field of view; and at least one processor operatively connected to the camera, wherein the at least one processor can be configured to: acquire a first background image having a second field of view that is larger than the first field of view by allowing photography to be performed while changing the direction in which the camera faces, acquire, using the camera, a second background image corresponding to the first field of view and a subject positioned within the second background image, generate a composite image by combining a first part of the first background image and a second part of the second background image on the basis of the distance between a designated position of the second background image and the subject, and generate an image including the composite image and the subject.
