METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDLING CELL SELECTION AND RE-SELECTION IN MR-DC SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18459161 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HANDLING CELL SELECTION AND RE-SELECTION IN MR-DC SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

Methods and apparatuses are provided in a wireless communication system to improve cell selection and connectivity. The system stores frequency information associated with cell selection and scans multiple frequencies. Based on the stored frequency information, cell information is obtained. Using this information, a preferred cell to camp on is identified from a group of cells corresponding to the scanned frequencies. The system prioritizes cells that support evolved-universal terrestrial radio access (E-UTRA) new radio (NR)-dual connectivity (DC) (EN-DC) over cells that do not support EN-DC. The identified preferred cell is then camped on.

  • Frequency information associated with cell selection is stored
  • Multiple frequencies are scanned
  • Cell information is obtained based on the stored frequency information
  • A preferred cell supporting EN-DC is identified from a group of cells corresponding to the scanned frequencies
  • The identified preferred cell is camped on

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, including cellular networks and mobile devices, to enhance cell selection and connectivity.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient cell selection: The system improves the process of selecting the most suitable cell for connectivity by considering frequency information and prioritizing cells supporting EN-DC. 2. Enhanced connectivity: By identifying and camping on a preferred cell, the system ensures a more stable and reliable connection for wireless communication devices.

Benefits

1. Improved network performance: By selecting cells based on frequency information and prioritizing EN-DC support, the system optimizes network performance and enhances overall connectivity. 2. Seamless handover: The technology enables seamless handover between cells, ensuring uninterrupted communication for mobile devices. 3. Enhanced user experience: With better cell selection and connectivity, users can experience faster data speeds, reduced latency, and improved reliability in wireless communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses are provided in a wireless communication system. Frequency information associated with a cell selection is stored, and a plurality of frequencies are scanned. Cell information is obtained based on the stored frequency information, and, based on the obtained cell information, a first cell to camp on is identified from among a plurality of cells corresponding to the second plurality of frequencies. In identifying the first cell, a cell supporting an evolved-universal terrestrial radio access (E-UTRA) new radio (NR)-dual connectivity (DC) (EN-DC) is preferred over a cell not supporting the EN-DC. The identified first cell is camped on.
