ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND METHOD FOR DETECTING STATE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18456192 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND METHOD FOR DETECTING STATE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an example electronic device that includes a flexible display and a sensor to detect the state of the device based on magnetic detection data.

  • The electronic device has two housings, with a flexible display on both.
  • A magnet with multiple polarities is arranged in one direction on a plane.
  • A sensor moves along the central axis of the magnet as the second housing is moved relative to the first housing.
  • The sensor detects the magnetic flux density in multiple direction components.
  • A memory stores reference information on the state of the device corresponding to the direction components.
  • A processor obtains magnetic detection data from the sensor and compares it to the reference information to determine the state of the device.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Smartphones or tablets with flexible displays that can detect their state based on magnetic data.
  • Wearable devices with flexible displays that can adapt their interface based on their orientation.
  • Foldable electronic devices that can automatically adjust their display content when folded or unfolded.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Enables electronic devices with flexible displays to accurately detect their state without relying on external sensors or user input.
  • Provides a more intuitive and seamless user experience by automatically adapting the device's interface based on its orientation or folding state.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved user experience with electronic devices that can automatically adjust their display content based on their state.
  • Simplified user interaction as the device can detect its state without requiring manual input.
  • Enables the development of more versatile and adaptable electronic devices with flexible displays.

Original Abstract Submitted

An example electronic device includes a first housing; a second housing coupled to be movable with respect to the first housing; a flexible display disposed on at least a portion of the first housing and the second housing; a magnet having at least two polarities arranged in a first direction in one plane; a sensor configured to move in the first direction along the central axis of the magnet as the arrangement of the second housing relative to the first housing is changed, and detect at least two or more direction components including a first direction component and a second direction component of magnetic flux density; a memory configured to store state reference information on a state of the electronic device corresponding to the first direction component and the second direction component; and a processor configured to obtain magnetic detection data including the at least two or more direction components from the sensor; and detect the state of the electronic device based on the obtained magnetic detection data and the state reference information.
