INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18450634 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an information processing apparatus that acquires material data for generating a virtual viewpoint image based on captured images from multiple cameras. The material data is represented in a first format and needs to be converted to a second format compatible with another device.

  • The acquisition unit collects material data used for generating a virtual viewpoint image.
  • The conversion unit converts the acquired material data from the first format to a second format.
  • The transmission/reception unit outputs the converted material data to the other device.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems that require generating virtual viewpoint images.
  • Video editing and post-production software that can process material data from multiple cameras.
  • 3D modeling and computer graphics applications that utilize captured images for generating virtual scenes.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Compatibility issues between different devices that require material data in different formats.
  • Streamlining the process of converting material data from one format to another.
  • Ensuring seamless transmission and reception of material data between devices.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Simplifies the workflow by automatically converting material data to the required format.
  • Enables efficient collaboration between different devices and software applications.
  • Enhances the usability and interoperability of virtual viewpoint image generation systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

An information processing apparatus includes an acquisition unit configured to acquire material data that is to be used for generation of a virtual viewpoint image that is based on a plurality of captured images obtained by a plurality of cameras performing image capturing of a subject, and is material data represented by a first format, a conversion unit configured to convert, based on information for identifying a format of material data processable by a different apparatus being an output destination of the material data, a format of the acquired material data from the first format into a second format, and a transmission/reception unit configured to output the material data converted into the second format, to the different apparatus.
