METHOD, APPARATUS AND COMPUTER PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18447355 titled 'METHOD, APPARATUS AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

Simplified Explanation

The apparatus described in the patent application is designed to facilitate secure communication between a user equipment and different access points by generating an access point key based on information received from the target access point.

  • The apparatus determines a change of connection from a source access point to a target access point.
  • Receives an indication from the target access point that the associated gateway function is the same for both access points.
  • Generates an access point key based on the received indication.
  • Secures communications with the target access point using the generated access point key.

Potential Applications

  • Secure communication between user equipment and different access points.
  • Seamless handover between access points without compromising security.

Problems Solved

  • Ensuring secure communication during handover between access points.
  • Simplifying the process of generating access point keys for secure communication.

Benefits

  • Enhanced security for communication between user equipment and access points.
  • Improved user experience with seamless handover between access points.

Original Abstract Submitted

There is provided an apparatus comprising means for determining a change of connection at a user equipment from a source access point to a target access point, and means for receiving, from the target access point, an indication that an associated gateway function is the same for the source access point and the target access point. The apparatus also comprising means for generating an access point key based on the received indication from the target access point, and means for securing communications with the target access point using the generated access point key.
