AUGMENTED REALITY DEVICE FOR OBTAINING DEPTH INFORMATION OF OBJECT AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18384648 titled 'AUGMENTED REALITY DEVICE FOR OBTAINING DEPTH INFORMATION OF OBJECT AND OPERATING METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an augmented reality device that uses gaze tracking and depth sensors to obtain depth information of an object in the real world. Here are the key points of the patent application:

  • Gaze tracking sensor tracks the user's eye movement to obtain a gaze point.
  • Depth sensor obtains depth information of the object.
  • Processor determines a region of interest (ROI) based on gaze point and other factors.
  • Parameter is set to control the depth sensor operation within the ROI.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Augmented reality gaming
  • Industrial design and manufacturing
  • Medical imaging and surgery
  • Navigation and mapping

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Accurate depth information of objects in the real world
  • Enhanced user experience in augmented reality applications
  • Improved efficiency in various industries

Benefits of this technology:

  • Precise depth information for better interaction with virtual objects
  • Customized user experience based on gaze tracking
  • Increased productivity and accuracy in various fields.

Original Abstract Submitted

An augmented reality (AR) device for obtaining depth information of an object in a real world, includes: a gaze tracking sensor configured to obtain a gaze point by tracking a gaze direction of a user's eye; a depth sensor configured to obtain depth information of the object; a memory storing one or more instructions; and at least one processor configured to execute the one or more instructions to: determine a region of interest (ROI) confidence level indicating a degree to which at least one partial region within a field of view (FOV) of the AR device is predicted as an ROI, based on at least one of a moving speed, an acceleration, a fixation time, a fixation number, or a location of the gaze point; determine an ROI based on the ROI confidence level; and set a parameter for controlling an operation of the depth sensor to obtain depth information of the object within the ROI.
