ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR PERFORMING BEAM CHANGE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18378933 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR PERFORMING BEAM CHANGE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic device that includes two antenna modules, two temperature sensors, at least one processor, and a memory. The device is capable of receiving a serving beam through the first antenna module and measuring the intensity of a signal from a neighbor beam through the second antenna module. The temperature sensors measure the temperatures corresponding to each antenna module. The device determines if the first antenna module is overheated while communicating with the first base station and, if so, performs a handover to the second base station based on channel measurement information regarding the second base station.

  • The electronic device has two antenna modules - one for receiving a serving beam and the other for measuring the signal intensity of a neighbor beam.
  • It includes temperature sensors that measure the temperatures of each antenna module.
  • The device has at least one processor and a memory that stores instructions for the processor.
  • The processor determines if the first antenna module is overheated during communication with the first base station.
  • If the first antenna module is overheated, the device performs a handover to the second base station based on channel measurement information of the second base station.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be applied in wireless communication devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops.
  • It can be used in IoT devices that require reliable and efficient communication with base stations.

Problems Solved:

  • Overheating of antenna modules during communication can lead to performance degradation or even device failure. This technology solves the problem of overheating by performing a handover to a different base station.
  • By measuring the temperature of each antenna module, the device can proactively identify overheating issues and take appropriate action.

Benefits:

  • Improved reliability and performance of wireless communication devices.
  • Prevention of device failure due to overheating.
  • Enhanced user experience by ensuring uninterrupted communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

An example electronic device includes a first antenna module configured to receive a serving beam; a second antenna module configured to measure an intensity of a signal of a neighbor beam; a first temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature corresponding to the first antenna module; a second temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature corresponding to the second antenna module; at least one processor; and a memory operatively connected to the at least one processor, wherein the memory stores instructions which, when executed, cause the least one processor to: determine whether the first antenna module is in an overheated state while performing communication with the first base station through the first antenna module and, based on determining that the first antenna module is in the overheated state, perform handover to the second base station based on channel measurement information regarding the second base station.
