Semantic Communication for Low Bit Rate Applications - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18377731 titled 'Semantic Communication for Low Bit Rate Applications

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes methods, systems, and apparatus for sending a reduced-size message over a wireless network. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A wireless device receives a request to send a message over a wireless network.
  • The device determines that the connection quality of the wireless network does not meet a certain threshold.
  • In response to the low connection quality, the device generates a reduced-size message based on the original message.
  • The device then sends the reduced-size message over the wireless network.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile messaging applications: This technology can be used in messaging apps to optimize message delivery in areas with poor network connectivity.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices: IoT devices often operate in areas with limited network coverage, and this technology can help ensure reliable communication between devices.
  • Remote areas and developing regions: In regions with limited infrastructure, this technology can enable efficient communication over wireless networks.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Poor network connectivity: The technology addresses the issue of sending messages in areas with low connection quality, ensuring that messages can still be delivered.
  • Bandwidth limitations: By reducing the size of messages, this technology helps overcome bandwidth limitations, allowing for more efficient communication.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved message delivery: The reduced-size messages can be sent more quickly and reliably in areas with poor network connectivity.
  • Efficient use of network resources: By reducing the size of messages, this technology optimizes the use of limited network resources, improving overall network performance.
  • Enhanced user experience: Users can still send and receive messages even in areas with weak network signals, providing a better user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for sending a reduced size message. One of the methods includes receiving, by a wireless device, a request to send, over a wireless network, a message comprising one or more phrases; determining that a connection quality for the wireless network does not satisfy a connection quality threshold; generating, responsive to determining that the connection quality threshold is not satisfied, a reduced-size message based at least in part on the one or more phrases; and sending, by the wireless device and via the wireless network, the reduced-size message.
