SURFACE TREATMENT METHOD OF ALUMINUM MATERIAL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18377658 titled 'SURFACE TREATMENT METHOD OF ALUMINUM MATERIAL

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for treating the surface of an aluminum material. The method includes several steps such as degreasing, etching, desmutting, anodizing, coloring, and sealing the aluminum material.

  • Degreasing: The aluminum material is cleaned to remove any grease or contaminants.
  • Etching: The degreased aluminum material is treated with a solution to create a rough surface texture.
  • First desmutting treatment: The etched aluminum material is immersed in a nitric acid solution at a specific concentration and temperature for a certain duration to remove any smut or impurities.
  • Second desmutting treatment: The aluminum material that has undergone the first desmutting treatment is immersed in a different nitric acid solution at a specific concentration and temperature for a specific time to further remove any remaining smut or impurities.
  • Anodizing: The second desmutting-treated aluminum material is subjected to an anodizing process, which involves creating a controlled oxide layer on the surface of the material.
  • Coloring: The anodized aluminum material is colored using various techniques to achieve the desired appearance.
  • Sealing: The colored aluminum material is sealed to enhance its durability and protect the surface.

Potential applications of this technology: - This method can be used in the manufacturing of aluminum products such as automotive parts, architectural components, and consumer electronics. - It can also be applied in the production of decorative items, furniture, and jewelry made from aluminum.

Problems solved by this technology: - The method effectively removes grease, contaminants, and smut from the surface of the aluminum material, ensuring a clean and smooth surface for further processing. - The anodizing process creates a protective oxide layer that enhances the corrosion resistance and durability of the aluminum material.

Benefits of this technology: - The treated aluminum material has improved aesthetics due to the coloring process, making it more visually appealing. - The sealed surface provides enhanced protection against environmental factors, extending the lifespan of the aluminum material. - The method offers a reliable and efficient way to treat aluminum surfaces, resulting in high-quality finished products.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed is a method of treating a surface of an aluminum material, the method including: degreasing an aluminum material; etching the degreased aluminum material; performing a first desmutting treatment by immersing the etched aluminum material in a 25-35 wt % nitric acid solution at a temperature in a range of 25 to 30° C. for at least 60 seconds; performing a second desmutting treatment by immersing the first desmutting-treated aluminum material in a 5-15 wt % nitric acid solution at a temperature in a range of 25 to 30° C. for a time in a range of 30 seconds to 60 seconds; anodizing the second desmutting-treated aluminum material; coloring the anodized aluminum material; and sealing the colored aluminum material.
