SHOWING CONTEXT IN A COMMUNICATION SESSION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18367490 titled 'SHOWING CONTEXT IN A COMMUNICATION SESSION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes various implementations of representing a user within a three-dimensional environment. This representation goes beyond the user's physical environment and provides additional context based on detected conditions. Here are the key points:

  • The technology provides a representation of a user in a 3D environment.
  • The representation includes objects from the user's physical environment to provide context.
  • Examples include showing a representation of a sitting surface when the user is sitting down.
  • Other examples include showing representations of objects like a table and coffee cup when the user reaches out to pick up the cup.
  • The technology can also detect the presence of other users based on voice or the user's attention towards a moving object or sound.
  • Additionally, the technology can show a representation of a puppy when it detects the puppy's bark.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications can benefit from more realistic and contextual representations of users.
  • Gaming platforms can use this technology to enhance the immersion and interaction between virtual characters and the user.
  • Social media platforms can incorporate these representations to create more engaging and interactive experiences for users.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Enhances the realism and immersion of virtual environments by providing contextual representations of users and their physical surroundings.
  • Improves the interaction between users and virtual objects by accurately representing the user's actions and surroundings.
  • Enables more engaging and interactive experiences in VR, AR, and gaming applications.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Provides a more realistic and immersive experience for users in virtual environments.
  • Enhances the interaction between users and virtual objects, improving the overall user experience.
  • Enables the creation of more engaging and interactive social media experiences.

Original Abstract Submitted

Various implementations provide a representation of at least a portion of a user within a three-dimensional (3D) environment other than the user's physical environment. Based on detecting a condition, a representation of another object of the user's physical environment is shown to provide context. As examples, a representation of a sitting surface may be shown based on detecting that the user is sitting down, representations of a table and coffee cup may be shown based on detecting that the user is reaching out to pick up a coffee cup, a representation of a second user may be shown based on detecting a voice or the user turning his attention towards a moving object or sound, and a depiction of a puppy may be shown when the puppy's bark is detected.
