METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR UPDATING UE POLICY BASED ON NETWORK SLICING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18365126 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR UPDATING UE POLICY BASED ON NETWORK SLICING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method used by a Policy Control Function (PCF) entity in a wireless communication system to support a higher data transmission rate in a 5G or 6G network. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The PCF entity receives a request message from an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) entity. The request message includes information about a user equipment (UE) and a network slice access stratum (AS) group (NSAG) support indication.
  • The NSAG support indication indicates that the UE supports cell selection and cell reselection based on a network slice priority.
  • The PCF entity transmits a response message to the AMF entity. The response message includes a policy control request (PCR) trigger for changing the NSAG.
  • The PCR trigger instructs the transmission of a reporting message in case there are changes in the NSAG mapping information or NSAG priority information.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in 5G or 6G communication systems to support higher data transmission rates.
  • It can improve the efficiency of cell selection and cell reselection based on network slice priorities.
  • The method can be used to manage and control network slices in a wireless communication system.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The method solves the problem of efficiently managing and controlling network slices in a wireless communication system.
  • It addresses the need for improved cell selection and cell reselection based on network slice priorities.
  • The technology helps in optimizing data transmission rates in 5G or 6G networks.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The method allows for a higher data transmission rate in a 5G or 6G communication system.
  • It improves the efficiency of cell selection and cell reselection based on network slice priorities.
  • The technology enhances the management and control of network slices, leading to better overall performance in wireless communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. A method of a policy control function (PCF) entity in a wireless communication system includes receiving, from an access and mobility management function (AMF) entity, a first user equipment (UE) policy control create request message for UE policy association including a subscription permanent identifier (SUPT) of a UE and a network slice access stratum (AS) group (NSAG) support indication indicating that the LIE supports cell selection and cell reselection based on a network slice priority and transmitting, to the AMF entity, a response message including policy control request (PCR) trigger for change of NSAG instructing transmission of a reporting message in case that at least one of NSAG mapping information indicating a mapping relationship between slice groups and slices or NSAG priority information is changed.
