SHEET CONVEYANCE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18358184 titled 'SHEET CONVEYANCE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The sheet conveyance apparatus described in the patent application includes two skew correcting portions, an acquisition unit, and a control unit.

  • The first skew correcting portion corrects the skew of a sheet by aligning the leading edge of the sheet against the first roller pair, creating a bend in the sheet.
  • The second skew correcting portion corrects the skew of a sheet by conveying it with a turning motion.
  • The control unit is responsible for correcting the skew of the sheets based on their lengths.
  • When a first sheet with a length of a first length is conveyed, the control unit corrects the skew using the second skew correcting portion.
  • When a second sheet with a length longer than the first length is conveyed, the control unit corrects the skew using the first skew correcting portion and does not use the second skew correcting portion.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Printing industry: This sheet conveyance apparatus can be used in printing machines to ensure accurate alignment and feeding of sheets, reducing errors and improving print quality.
  • Packaging industry: The apparatus can be employed in packaging machines to handle various types of sheets, such as cardboard or plastic, ensuring precise alignment during the packaging process.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Skew correction: The apparatus effectively corrects the skew of sheets, ensuring proper alignment and reducing the risk of misfeeds or jams in various industries that rely on sheet handling.
  • Length-based skew correction: The control unit automatically adjusts the skew correction method based on the length of the sheet, optimizing the process and reducing the need for manual adjustments.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved accuracy: The apparatus ensures precise alignment of sheets, reducing errors and improving the overall quality of the final product.
  • Increased efficiency: By automatically adjusting the skew correction method based on sheet length, the apparatus streamlines the conveyance process, saving time and reducing manual intervention.
  • Reduced waste: Proper skew correction minimizes the occurrence of misfeeds, jams, and damaged sheets, reducing material waste and improving productivity.

Original Abstract Submitted

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a first skew correcting portion, a second skew correcting portion, an acquisition unit, a control unit. The first skew correcting portion corrects skew of a sheet by abutting a leading edge of the sheet against the first roller pair to form a bend in the sheet. The second skew correcting portion corrects skew of a sheet by conveying the sheet with a turning motion. When a first sheet with a length of a first length is conveyed, the control unit corrects the skew of the first sheet by the second skew correcting portion. When a second sheet with a length of a second length longer than the first length is conveyed, the control unit corrects the skew of the second sheet by the first skew correcting portion, and configured not to correct the skew of the second sheet by the second skew correcting portion.
