ENHANCED RADIO LINK FAILURE DETECTION IN NTN - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18348246 titled 'ENHANCED RADIO LINK FAILURE DETECTION IN NTN

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes methods and apparatuses for detecting radio link failures in a non-terrestrial network. The method involves identifying a timer value and a time value, starting the timer upon detecting a radio link problem, and determining if the current time has passed the time value. If the timer has started and the current time is past the time value, a radio link failure is detected.

  • The patent/application provides a method for enhanced radio link failure detection in a non-terrestrial network.
  • The method involves using a timer and a time value to detect radio link problems.
  • When a radio link problem is detected, the timer starts.
  • The method then checks if the current time has passed the time value.
  • If the timer has started and the current time is past the time value, a radio link failure is detected.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be applied in satellite communication systems to improve the detection of radio link failures.
  • It can be used in space-based networks to ensure reliable communication between user equipment and the network.

Problems Solved:

  • The technology solves the problem of efficiently detecting radio link failures in non-terrestrial networks.
  • It addresses the challenge of timely identifying and resolving radio link problems in satellite communication systems.

Benefits:

  • The enhanced radio link failure detection improves the reliability and performance of non-terrestrial networks.
  • It allows for quicker identification and resolution of radio link problems, leading to improved communication quality.
  • The technology helps in maintaining seamless connectivity between user equipment and the non-terrestrial network.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses for an enhanced radio link failure (RLF) detection in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) are provided. A method of operating a user equipment (UE) includes identifying a value of a timer and a time value and determining that the timer has started upon detection of a radio link problem. The radio link problem is based on a first counter. The method further includes determining that a current time is passed the time value and detecting a radio link failure based on a determination that the timer has started and the current time is passed the time value.
