ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD WITH BATTERY STATE DETECTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18344222 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD WITH BATTERY STATE DETECTION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and electronic device for detecting the state of a battery. Here are the key points:

  • The method involves generating a curve called the relative cumulative cell resistance (RCCR) curve based on data recorded during the charging operation of the target battery.
  • The generated RCCR curve provides information about the aging or shorting condition of the target battery.
  • The electronic device is designed to implement this method and perform the necessary calculations and analysis.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Battery management systems in electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles can use this method to monitor the state of the batteries and detect any aging or shorting conditions.
  • It can be used in portable electronic devices like smartphones or laptops to provide accurate battery health information to the users.
  • Energy storage systems, such as those used in renewable energy installations, can benefit from this technology to optimize battery performance and detect any potential issues.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Battery aging and shorting are common problems that can lead to reduced battery capacity and performance. This technology helps in early detection of these conditions, allowing for timely maintenance or replacement.
  • Accurate battery state detection is crucial for efficient battery management and preventing unexpected battery failures. This technology provides a reliable method for monitoring battery health.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved battery management: By providing accurate information about battery aging and shorting conditions, this technology enables better management and maintenance of batteries, leading to longer lifespan and improved performance.
  • Cost savings: Early detection of battery issues allows for timely maintenance or replacement, reducing the risk of costly battery failures and improving overall cost-effectiveness.
  • Enhanced user experience: Users of electronic devices can benefit from knowing the accurate battery health information, allowing them to plan their usage accordingly and avoid unexpected shutdowns.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method and electronic device with battery state detection are provided. The method includes generating relative cumulative cell resistance (RCCR) curve information of a target battery based on constant voltage (CV) phase data of the target battery recorded during a charging operation of the target battery; and generating at least one of aging or shorting condition information of the target battery based on the generated RCCR curve information.
