DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18343031 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD OF DRIVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device with a unique electrode layer configuration and voltage application method to improve display performance.

  • The display device includes a display panel, first electrode layer, liquid crystal layer, second electrode layer, and lens layer.
  • The second electrode layer contains first and second sensors that form a capacitance with each other.
  • The device operates with a first frame period and a second frame period, with different voltage levels applied to the first electrode layer during each period.
  • The driving signals applied to the first sensors also have different average voltage levels during the first and second frame periods.
    • Potential Applications:**
  • Consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Automotive displays for navigation systems and entertainment consoles.
  • Medical devices for imaging and diagnostic equipment.
    • Problems Solved:**
  • Improved display performance with optimized voltage levels and sensor configurations.
  • Enhanced image quality and responsiveness in display devices.
  • Reduced power consumption and heat generation in electronic devices.
    • Benefits:**
  • Crisp and clear images on display screens.
  • Faster response times for touch input and display changes.
  • Energy-efficient operation for longer battery life in portable devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display panel, a first electrode layer on the display panel, a liquid crystal layer on the first electrode layer, a second electrode layer on the liquid crystal layer, and a lens layer on the second electrode layer. The second electrode layer includes first sensors and second sensors forming a capacitance with each other, a first period includes a first frame period and a second frame period, a first voltage level of a first voltage applied to the first electrode layer during the first frame period is less than a second voltage level applied to the first electrode layer during the second frame period, and a first average voltage level of driving signals applied to the first sensors during the first frame period is less than a second average voltage level of the driving signals during the second frame period.
