A method for operating a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a configuration enabling frequency selective beam indication (FSBI) and receiving, in a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state, a plurality of quasi co-location (QCL) parameters corresponding to a plurality of frequency subbands. The method further includes determining, based on the plurality of frequency subbands and the plurality of QCL parameters, one or more reception or transmission filters for receiving or transmitting, respectively, channels in the plurality of frequency subbands.
