IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18339947 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an image forming apparatus that includes an image bearing member, a developing device, first and second drive portions, and a controller. The developing device consists of conveying screws and a developer bearing member. The rotational driving speed of the conveying screws (Vsc) by the first drive portion is compared to the rotational driving speed of the developer bearing member (Vs) by the second drive portion, resulting in a ratio of Vsc/Vs. Similarly, the rotational driving speed of a third conveying screw by the second drive portion is compared to the developer bearing member rotational driving speed, resulting in a ratio of Vsc/Vs.

In a control mode, the controller adjusts the first and second drive portions so that the ratio Vsc/Vs in a non-image forming period is less than the ratio Vsc/Vs in an image forming period, making them equal.

  • The patent application describes an image forming apparatus with a developing device and drive portions that control the rotational driving speed of conveying screws and a developer bearing member.
  • The controller adjusts the drive portions to ensure a specific ratio of rotational driving speeds between the conveying screws and the developer bearing member.
  • This adjustment is made to maintain the same ratio of rotational driving speeds in both image forming and non-image forming periods.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Image forming devices such as printers, copiers, and scanners could benefit from this innovation.
  • Any application that requires precise control of rotational driving speeds in image forming processes.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures consistent image quality by maintaining the same ratio of rotational driving speeds during image forming and non-image forming periods.
  • Prevents image defects caused by variations in the rotational driving speeds of the conveying screws and developer bearing member.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image quality and consistency in image forming processes.
  • Reduces the occurrence of image defects.
  • Enhances the overall performance and reliability of image forming apparatus.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a developing device, first and second drive portions, and a controller. The developing device includes first, second, and third conveying screws, and a developer bearing member. A ratio of a rotational driving speed (Vsc) of the first and second conveying screws by the first drive portion to a rotational driving speed (Vs) of the developer bearing member by the second drive portion is Vsc/Vs. A ratio of a rotational driving speed (Vsc) of the third conveying screw by the second drive portion to the developer bearing member rotational driving speed (Vs) is Vsc/Vs. In a control mode, the controller controls the first and second drive portions so that Vsc/Vs in a non-image forming period becomes less than Vsc/Vs in an image forming period such that Vsc/Vs in the non-image forming period is equal to Vsc/Vs in the image forming period.
