CONTROLLER AND CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18329708 titled 'CONTROLLER AND CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a controller for an internal combustion engine that performs a determination process and an anomaly diagnosing process. The determination process checks if the deviation between two change amounts during a fuel cutoff operation is within a specified threshold. The anomaly diagnosing process determines if the exhaust purification device is detached when the deviation is within the threshold. The change amounts are related to the temperature of exhaust gas before and after the exhaust purification device.
- The controller determines if the deviation between two change amounts during fuel cutoff is within a threshold.
- It diagnoses if the exhaust purification device is detached when the deviation is within the threshold.
- The change amounts are related to the temperature of exhaust gas before and after the exhaust purification device.
Potential Applications
- Automotive industry
- Engine manufacturing companies
- Emission control systems
Problems Solved
- Detecting anomalies in the exhaust purification device
- Ensuring proper functioning of the exhaust purification system
- Preventing detached exhaust purification devices
Benefits
- Improved engine performance
- Enhanced emission control
- Early detection of exhaust system issues
Original Abstract Submitted
A controller for an internal combustion engine is configured to execute a determination process and an anomaly diagnosing process. The determination process is a process of determining that a deviation between a first change amount and a second change amount during a fuel cutoff operation is less than or equal to a threshold. The anomaly diagnosing process is a process of determining that an exhaust purification device is in a detached state when it is determined in the determination process that the deviation is less than or equal to the threshold. The first change amount and the second change amount are change amounts per unit time of the temperature of exhaust gas on the upstream side and the downstream side of the exhaust purification device, respectively.
