ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING HINGE STRUCTURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18306425 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING HINGE STRUCTURE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes an electronic device with a hinge structure and a flexible display. The hinge structure allows the second housing to rotate relative to the first housing, and the flexible display can bend in response to this rotation. The hinge structure includes rotating members, detent members, and pin members. The rotating members can have detent slots, and the pin members are slidably connected to these slots. The detent members provide elastic force to the pin members.

  • The electronic device has a hinge structure that connects two housings.
  • The hinge structure allows the second housing to rotate relative to the first housing.
  • The flexible display of the device can bend partially when the second housing rotates.
  • The hinge structure includes rotating members, detent members, and pin members.
  • The rotating members can have detent slots, and the pin members are slidably connected to these slots.
  • The detent members provide elastic force to the pin members.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Foldable smartphones or tablets with flexible displays.
  • Convertible laptops or 2-in-1 devices with a flexible display that can be used as a touchscreen or a traditional laptop screen.
  • Wearable devices with a flexible display that can adapt to the shape of the user's body.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Allows for the creation of electronic devices with flexible displays that can be bent or folded without damaging the screen.
  • Provides a mechanism for the rotation of two housings in an electronic device without compromising the integrity of the display.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enables the development of more versatile and compact electronic devices.
  • Provides a more durable and resilient display technology that can withstand bending and folding.
  • Offers a new form factor for electronic devices, allowing for innovative designs and user experiences.

Original Abstract Submitted

According to an embodiment of the disclosure, an electronic device may comprise a first housing, a second housing, a hinge structure, and/or a flexible display. The hinge structure may be rotatably connect the second housing to the first housing. The flexible display may be at least partially bendable in response to the rotation of the second housing relative to the first housing. The hinge structure may include at least one rotating member, at least one detent member, and/or at least one pin member. The rotating member may include a first detent member coupled to the first housing and rotatable about a first rotational axis and/or a second detent member coupled to the second housing and rotatable about a second rotational axis parallel to the first rotational axis. The detent member may include a first detent member disposed in the first rotating member and including a first detent slot and/or a second detent member disposed in the second rotating member and including a second detent slot. The pin member may include a first pin member slidably connected to the first detent slot and/or a second pin member slidably connected to the second detent slot. The first detent member may be configured to provide an elastic force to the first pin member. The second detent member may be configured to provide an elastic force to the second pin member.
