SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A USER INTENT TO START A VIDEO RECORDING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18304235 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A USER INTENT TO START A VIDEO RECORDING

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the patent application involves using sensor information from an electronic device to determine whether a user intends to record video or capture an image when initiating a shooting mode in a camera application.

  • The method collects sensor information such as motion data, position data, and image data from imaging sensors of the electronic device.
  • A trained machine learning model is used to analyze the sensor information and extract features to determine the user intention.
  • Video recording is initiated if the user intention is to record video, regardless of the shooting mode.
  • Image capture is initiated if the user intention is to capture an image, regardless of the shooting mode.

---

      1. Potential Applications
  • Camera applications in smartphones and other electronic devices could benefit from this technology to improve user experience and streamline the process of capturing videos or images.
      1. Problems Solved
  • This technology helps in accurately determining user intentions when using a camera application, reducing the chances of user error and improving the overall efficiency of capturing videos or images.
      1. Benefits
  • Enhanced user experience by automatically initiating the desired action (video recording or image capture) based on user intention.
  • Simplifies the process of using a camera application, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method includes, in response to initiating a shooting mode of a camera application on an electronic device, collecting sensor information comprising at least one of: motion data of the electronic device, position data of the electronic device, and image data captured by one or more imaging sensors of the electronic device, wherein the shooting mode represents at least one of: a video record mode and an image capture mode. The method also includes determining, using a trained machine learning model, whether a user intention is to record video or capture an image based on features extracted from the sensor information. The method further includes recording video regardless of the shooting mode in response to determining that the user intention is to record video or capturing the image regardless of the shooting mode in response to determining that the user intention is to capture the image.
