MAGNETIC TAPE, MAGNETIC TAPE CARTRIDGE, AND MAGNETIC TAPE APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18298084 titled 'MAGNETIC TAPE, MAGNETIC TAPE CARTRIDGE, AND MAGNETIC TAPE APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a magnetic tape and its cartridge and apparatus. The magnetic tape consists of a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder.

  • The magnetic layer has recesses on its surface with a diameter between 0.15 μm and 0.25 μm.
  • The number of recesses per area is between 100 and 2500 within a 40 μm×40 μm area.
  • The standard deviation of the number of recesses in the width direction of the magnetic layer is 100 or less.

Potential Applications:

  • Data storage: The magnetic tape can be used for high-density data storage in various industries, such as media and archives.
  • Backup systems: The magnetic tape cartridge and apparatus can be utilized for reliable and efficient backup systems in computer networks and data centers.

Problems Solved:

  • High-density data storage: The magnetic tape with specific recess characteristics allows for increased data storage capacity.
  • Data reliability: The magnetic tape cartridge and apparatus provide a reliable backup solution for data protection and recovery.

Benefits:

  • Increased storage capacity: The specific recess characteristics of the magnetic tape enable higher data density, allowing for more information to be stored.
  • Data protection: The magnetic tape cartridge and apparatus offer a secure and efficient backup solution, ensuring data reliability and recovery.

Original Abstract Submitted

The magnetic tape includes: a non-magnetic support; and a magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder, and a magnetic tape cartridge and a magnetic tape apparatus include the magnetic tape. The number of recesses existing on a surface of the magnetic layer and having an equivalent circle diameter of 0.15 μm or more and 0.25 μm or less is 100 or more and 2500 or less per an area of 40 μm×40 μm. Standard deviation σ of the number of the recesses in a width direction of the surface of the magnetic layer is 100 or less.
