DEFINING PRS & SRS ASSOCIATION TO IMPROVE MULTI-RTT POSITIONING IN PROCESSING CAPABILITY CONSTRAINED SCENARIOS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18276012 titled 'DEFINING PRS & SRS ASSOCIATION TO IMPROVE MULTI-RTT POSITIONING IN PROCESSING CAPABILITY CONSTRAINED SCENARIOS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for a User Equipment (UE) to indicate a list of Positioning Reference Signal (PRS) resources it plans to measure to a base station. The UE determines the association between reception properties of PRS resources and transmission properties of Synchronization Reference Signal (SRS) resources, transmits this information to the base station, measures PRSs, and then transmits SRSs based on the properties.

  • UE indicates list of PRS resources to measure to base station
  • UE associates reception properties of PRS resources with transmission properties of SRS resources
  • UE transmits information to base station
  • UE measures PRSs from base stations based on reception properties
  • UE transmits SRSs to base stations based on transmission properties

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact battery life in UEs?

This article does not address the potential impact of this technology on the battery life of User Equipment. It would be interesting to know if the additional measurements and transmissions required by this method have any significant effect on the power consumption of UEs.

What are the potential security implications of transmitting reception and transmission properties to base stations?

The abstract does not discuss the security aspects of transmitting information about reception and transmission properties to base stations. It would be important to understand how this data is protected and if there are any vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious actors.

Original Abstract Submitted

Aspects presented herein may enable a UE to indicate a list of PRS resources in which the UE plans to measure in a given occasion to a base station. In one aspect, a UE determines an association between one or more reception properties of one or more PRS resources and one or more transmission properties of one or more SRS resources. The UE transmits, to at least one serving BS, information indicating the one or more PRS resources that the UE is configured to measure in a future measurement occasion. The UE measures PRSs received from one or more BSs on the one or more PRS resources based on the one or more reception properties. The UE transmits, to the one or more BSs after measuring the PRSs, SRSs on the one or more SRS resources based on the one or more transmission properties.
