Test substrates of the present disclosure include a predefined pattern, wherein a first region includes a partial pattern of the predefined pattern and a second region that is incomplete and wherein the incomplete portion comprises a reagent that reacts with an analyte in a sample to produce a completed pattern, wherein the completed pattern forms a code.
