Switching Delay Control in a Dual-Active Protocol Stack Handover - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18271127 titled 'Switching Delay Control in a Dual-Active Protocol Stack Handover

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method performed by a device in a wireless network to determine and address switching limitations during a handover process for a UE.

  • Determining if a UE can meet switching limitations during a handover process
  • Taking mitigation actions based on the determination, such as adjusting reception or transmission timing
  • Potential Applications:
 - Improving handover performance in wireless networks
 - Enhancing user experience during network transitions
  • Problems Solved:
 - Addressing switching limitations during handover processes
 - Optimizing UE performance during cell transitions
  • Benefits:
 - Enhanced network efficiency
 - Improved UE connectivity and reliability
 - Better overall user experience in wireless communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

An example method according to some of the techniques described below is performed by a device operating in a wireless network, where the device could be a UE or a network node, e.g., an NR gNB. This example method includes the step of determining () whether a receive-to-transmit or transmit-to-receive switching limitation of a UE can be met during a dual-active protocol stack handover for the UE from a source cell to a target cell. The method further includes the step of taking one or more mitigation actions () in response to said determining. Mitigation actions might include, for example, stopping a downlink reception early or starting a scheduled transmission late, in various embodiments or instances.
