METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR RECEIVER (Rx) - TRANSMITTER (Tx) ROUND TRIP TIME ESTIMATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18260552 titled 'METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR RECEIVER (Rx) - TRANSMITTER (Tx) ROUND TRIP TIME ESTIMATION

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for estimating Rx-Tx Round Trip Time (RTT) in a network system by transmitting a reference signal, recording time stamps of transmission and receipt of the signal, calculating Rx-Tx measurement and propagation delay based on the time stamps and estimated measurements.

  • Transmit reference signal between network elements
  • Record time stamps of transmission and receipt of signal
  • Receive estimated Rx-Tx measurement from another network element
  • Calculate Rx-Tx measurement and propagation delay based on time stamps and estimated measurements

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for Rx-Tx RTT estimation are provided. One method may include transmitting, by a network element, the reference signal to another network element and recording a time stamp (t) of a time of transmission of the reference signal, and receiving an estimated Rx-Tx measurement from said another network element and recording a time stamp (t) of a time of receipt of the estimated Rx-Tx measurement. The method may also include calculating a Rx-Tx measurement at the network element based on a difference between the time stamp (t) of the time of transmission of the reference signal and the time stamp (t) of the receipt of the estimated Rx-Tx measurement, and determining a propagation delay based on a difference between the received estimated Rx-Tx measurement and the calculated Rx-Tx measurement.
