TECHNIQUES FOR REPORTING CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18257009 titled 'TECHNIQUES FOR REPORTING CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION

Simplified Explanation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in this patent application. The abstract explains that a user equipment (UE) receives indications of the number of antenna ports for reporting channel state information (CSI) and for measuring CSI reference signals (CSI-RSs). The UE also receives indications of antenna port parameters associated with the antenna ports. The UE then determines the CSI for the antenna ports using the antenna port parameters and measurements made on the ports, and transmits a report including the CSI.

  • The patent application describes a method for a UE to efficiently report CSI in wireless communications.
  • The UE receives indications of the number of antenna ports for reporting CSI and for measuring CSI-RSs, allowing for flexibility in the reporting and measurement process.
  • The UE also receives indications of antenna port parameters associated with the antenna ports, providing additional information for determining the CSI.
  • By using the antenna port parameters and measurements made on a subset of the antenna ports, the UE can accurately determine the CSI for all the antenna ports and transmit a report.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems, such as cellular networks, Wi-Fi networks, and satellite communications.
  • It can improve the efficiency and reliability of CSI reporting, leading to better overall system performance.
  • The technology can be used in 5G and future generations of wireless networks to enhance the quality of service for users.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The technology solves the problem of efficiently reporting CSI in wireless communications systems with multiple antenna ports.
  • It addresses the challenge of accurately determining the CSI for all antenna ports using limited resources.
  • The technology provides a solution for optimizing the use of antenna port parameters and measurements to improve the accuracy of CSI reporting.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The technology improves the efficiency of CSI reporting, reducing the overhead and resources required for transmitting CSI.
  • It enhances the accuracy of CSI reporting, leading to better decision-making in wireless communication systems.
  • The technology allows for flexible reporting and measurement of CSI, adapting to different network conditions and requirements.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a first indication of a first number of antenna ports for which the UE is to report channel state information (CSI), and a second indication of a second number of antenna ports on which the UE is to measure CSI reference signals (CSI-RSs). The second number may be less than the first number. The UE may receive an indication of one or more antenna port parameters, where each may be associated with one of the first number of antenna ports or the second number of antenna ports. The UE may determine the CSI for the first number of antenna ports using the one or more antenna port parameters and measurements made by the UE on the second number of ports, and may transmit a report including the CSI for the first number of ports.
