COMMUNICATION TERMINAL AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18252292 titled 'COMMUNICATION TERMINAL AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a communication terminal that can directly communicate with another terminal. When the terminal is within the coverage of a base station, it can perform a location management function on behalf of a higher-level device in the core network. This includes deriving the position of a communication terminal. However, if the terminal is able to communicate with another terminal through sidelink communication, it can instead derive the position of the other terminal itself, without relying on the higher-level device.
- Communication terminal capable of sidelink communication for direct communication with another terminal
- Can perform location management function on behalf of a higher-level device in the core network
- Includes a position derivation function to derive the position of a communication terminal
- If able to communicate with another terminal through sidelink, can derive the position of the other terminal itself
Potential Applications
- Enhanced communication between terminals without relying on the core network
- Improved accuracy in deriving the position of communication terminals
Problems Solved
- Reduces reliance on the higher-level device in the core network for location management
- Enables direct communication and position derivation between terminals
Benefits
- Faster and more efficient communication between terminals
- Increased accuracy in determining the position of communication terminals
Original Abstract Submitted
A communication terminal is capable of sidelink communication for directly communicating with another communication terminal. When being in coverage of a base station, the communication terminal is given an allocation for executing, on behalf of a higher-level device in a core network, all or part of a location management function (LMF) including a position derivation function that is a function of deriving a position of a communication terminal. The communication terminal executes, based on a result of the sidelink communication with another communication terminal, a positioning function of deriving a position of the other communication terminal, instead of the higher-level device.
