VEHICLE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18244824 titled 'VEHICLE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a vehicle system that can detect if a rear seat passenger is sleeping while a radio broadcast is playing, and automatically switch the radio mode to a sleep assistance mode to improve the passenger's comfort.

  • The vehicle system includes an audio device with a radio tuner, a radar for detecting rear seat passenger data, and a controller to determine if the passenger is sleeping and adjust the radio mode accordingly.
  • The controller can switch from a normal playback mode to a sleep assistance mode if the radar detects that the rear seat passenger is sleeping.
  • In the sleep assistance mode, the system can adjust the radio frequency and sound quality through the radio tuner to provide a more soothing listening experience for the sleeping passenger.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various vehicles, such as cars, buses, and trains, to enhance the comfort of rear seat passengers during long journeys.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the issue of discomfort for sleeping passengers in vehicles by automatically adjusting the radio mode to provide a more relaxing environment.

Benefits

- Improved comfort for rear seat passengers - Automatic adjustment of radio mode for sleeping passengers - Enhanced user experience during travel

Potential Commercial Applications

"Automatic Sleep Assistance Mode in Vehicles: Enhancing Passenger Comfort and Experience"

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing systems that monitor passenger comfort in vehicles, but the specific combination of radar detection for sleeping passengers and automatic adjustment of radio mode may be a novel feature.

Unanswered Questions

How does the radar differentiate between a sleeping passenger and other types of passenger movement?

The patent application does not provide details on the specific technology or algorithms used by the radar to distinguish between sleeping and non-sleeping passengers.

Are there any potential privacy concerns with using radar to monitor passenger behavior in vehicles?

The patent application does not address any privacy implications or safeguards related to the use of radar data to detect passenger activities.

Original Abstract Submitted

A vehicle includes an audio device including a radio tuner configured for receiving radio frequency signals, a radar configured for detecting radar data of a rear seat passenger, and a controller electrically connected to the radar, wherein the controller is configured to determine, in response that a radio broadcast is being played in the audio device, whether the rear seat passenger is sleeping based on the radar data detected by the radar, switch, if the rear seat passenger is sleeping, a radio mode from a normal playback mode to a sleep assistance mode, and change, in the sleep assistance mode, at least one of radio frequency and radio sound quality through the radio tuner.
