ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING WATERPROOF STRUCTURE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18243999 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING WATERPROOF STRUCTURE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device with a housing that has an outer wall and an inner wall, creating a groove. It includes an input button, a waterproof member, a switch module, and a bracket. The waterproof member has a protrusion that contacts the outer wall and has different heights in different regions based on the position of the input button.

  • The electronic device has a housing with an outer wall and an inner wall forming a groove.
  • It includes an input button that is inserted into an opening in the housing.
  • A waterproof member is placed between the outer wall and the inner wall, with a protrusion that contacts the outer wall.
  • The device also has a switch module with a switch and a bracket positioned between the switch module and the inner wall.
  • The protrusion of the waterproof member has different heights in different regions based on the position of the input button.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, or smartwatches.
  • Industrial equipment that requires waterproofing, such as control panels or sensors.
  • Outdoor devices like GPS devices or cameras that need protection from water.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Waterproofing the electronic device by using a waterproof member and a groove in the housing.
  • Ensuring the input button remains functional while maintaining waterproofing.
  • Protecting the internal components of the device from water damage.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced waterproofing capabilities for electronic devices.
  • Improved usability with the input button while maintaining water resistance.
  • Increased durability and protection for the internal components of the device.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device includes a housing having an outer wall forming a side surface of the electronic device and having at least one opening and an inner wall arranged to be spaced apart from the outer wall to form a groove. The electronic device further includes an input button inserted into the opening; a waterproof member arranged between the outer wall and the inner wall and including a protrusion coming in contact with one surface of the outer wall; a switch module including a switch; and a bracket arranged between the switch module and the inner wall. The protrusion forms a structure in which the height of a first region is greater than the height of a second region on the basis of one surface of the waterproof member corresponding to the position in which the input button is arranged.
