BACKLIGHT UNIT AND DISPLAY DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18238490 titled 'BACKLIGHT UNIT AND DISPLAY DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a backlight unit that includes a base substrate, a wiring layer, a light emitting element, a connection member, a backlight flexible substrate, and a pad connection member.

  • The base substrate has a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area.
  • The wiring layer is composed of a lower conductive layer, an intermediate conductive layer, and an upper conductive layer, all disposed on the base substrate.
  • The light emitting element is placed on the wiring layer in the light emitting area.
  • The connection member electrically connects the light emitting element and the wiring layer, making contact with the intermediate conductive layer and the light emitting element.
  • The backlight flexible substrate is electrically connected to the wiring layer in the non-light emitting area.
  • The pad connection member electrically connects the wiring layer and the backlight flexible substrate in the non-light emitting area, making contact with the upper conductive layer of the wiring layer.

Potential Applications

  • This backlight unit can be used in various electronic devices that require a display with a backlight, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and televisions.

Problems Solved

  • The backlight unit provides a simplified and efficient way to connect the light emitting element and the wiring layer, as well as the wiring layer and the backlight flexible substrate.
  • It eliminates the need for complex and bulky connection methods, reducing the overall size and weight of the device.

Benefits

  • The simplified design and efficient connections result in a more compact and lightweight backlight unit.
  • The improved electrical connections ensure reliable and stable performance of the backlight.
  • The reduced size and weight of the device enhance portability and user experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

A backlight unit includes: a base substrate in which a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area are defined; a wiring layer including: a lower conductive layer disposed on the base substrate; an intermediate conductive layer disposed on the lower conductive layer; and an upper conductive layer disposed on the intermediate conductive layer; a light emitting element disposed on the wiring layer in the light emitting area; a connection member electrically connecting the light emitting element and the wiring layer, the connection member contacting the intermediate conductive layer of the wiring layer and the light emitting element; a backlight flexible substrate electrically connected to the wiring layer in the non-light emitting area; and a pad connection member electrically connecting the wiring layer and the backlight flexible substrate in the non-light emitting area, the pad connection member contacting the upper conductive layer of the wiring layer.
