OPTICALLY POWERED LENS ASSEMBLY FOR HEAD-MOUNTED DEVICES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18237753 titled 'OPTICALLY POWERED LENS ASSEMBLY FOR HEAD-MOUNTED DEVICES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a lens assembly for a head-mounted device that includes a frame and a lens assembly with a lens bulk, edge thickness, and power layer. The edge thickness is designed to fit into the frame, while the power layer can be set to different power levels within a specific range.

  • The lens assembly is designed to be carried by a frame.
  • The edge thickness is predetermined to fit into the frame.
  • The power layer can be set to different power levels within a specific range.

Potential Applications

The technology could be used in virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, and other head-mounted display devices.

Problems Solved

The lens assembly solves the problem of providing adjustable power levels while maintaining a consistent edge thickness for compatibility with the frame.

Benefits

The lens assembly allows for customization of power levels without compromising the fit of the lens within the frame, providing users with a more comfortable and effective viewing experience.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology could be applied in the development of consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial equipment.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of interchangeable lenses with different power levels, but without the specific design features described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does the power layer adjust to different power levels?

The patent application mentions that the power layer can be set to different levels, but it does not provide details on how this adjustment is achieved.

Are there any limitations to the range of power levels that can be set?

The patent application specifies a range of power levels, but it does not mention if there are any constraints or limitations within this range.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus, system, and method for a lens assembly for a head-mounted device includes a frame and a lens assembly. The lens assembly is configured to be carried by the frame. The lens assembly includes a lens bulk, an edge thickness, and a power layer. The edge thickness includes a predetermined thickness value that is configured to be compatible with (e.g., a slot in) the frame. The power layer is configured to be set to one of a number of predetermined power levels while maintaining the edge thickness within the predetermined thickness value. The power layer is configured to define a course power level of the lens assembly (e.g., in the range of −6.00 D to +6.00 D).
