IMAGE DISPLAY SYSTEM, TERMINAL, METHOD, AND PROGRAM FOR DETERMINING A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FIRST IMAGE AND A SECOND IMAGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18237707 titled 'IMAGE DISPLAY SYSTEM, TERMINAL, METHOD, AND PROGRAM FOR DETERMINING A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FIRST IMAGE AND A SECOND IMAGE

Simplified Explanation

The present invention is an image display system that aims to quickly and accurately display an image corresponding to a specific location. It includes a mobile terminal that captures images, acquires information about the terminal's position and orientation, and retrieves past images stored in a storage device based on this information. The system then detects differences between the current and past images.

  • The image display system acquires a first image captured by a mobile terminal.
  • It retrieves information about the position and orientation of the mobile terminal.
  • The system acquires a second image from the storage device based on the position and orientation of the mobile terminal.
  • It detects differences between the first and second images.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Augmented reality: The system can be used to overlay virtual objects or information onto real-world images captured by the mobile terminal.
  • Navigation: By comparing current and past images, the system can provide visual cues to help users navigate and find their way.
  • Gaming: The technology can be utilized in mobile games that incorporate real-world elements and require accurate image display.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Quick and accurate image display: The system enables the display of images corresponding to a specific location in a timely and precise manner.
  • Efficient retrieval of past images: By utilizing the position and orientation information, the system can retrieve relevant images from the storage device without the need for extensive searching.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience: Users can view images that are relevant to their current location, providing them with context and additional information.
  • Improved navigation: The system's ability to detect differences between images can assist users in navigating unfamiliar environments.
  • Real-time image display: The system allows for the display of images captured by the mobile terminal in real-time, enabling immediate feedback and interaction.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present invention provides an image display system, a terminal, a method, and a program that can quickly and accurately display an image corresponding to a particular location. An image display system according to one example embodiment of the present invention includes: a current image acquisition unit configured to acquire a first image captured by a mobile terminal; an information acquisition unit configured to acquire information including a position and an orientation of the mobile terminal that has captured the first image; a past image acquisition unit configured to acquire a second image based on the position and the orientation of the mobile terminal and a position and an orientation associated with the second image stored in the past in a storage device; and a difference detection unit configured to detect a difference between the first image and the second image.
