DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18228040 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device with multiple compensation layers to improve image quality and reduce distortion.

  • The display device includes a display panel and an optical member with multiple compensation layers.
  • The optical member consists of a polarization layer, a first compensation layer, a second compensation layer, a third compensation layer, and a fourth compensation layer.
  • The first compensation layer is a positive C plate with a thickness direction phase delay value of about -65 nm to -15 nm.
  • The second compensation layer is a positive A plate with an in-plane phase delay value of about 75 nm to 125 nm.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various display devices such as smartphones, tablets, monitors, and televisions to enhance image quality and reduce visual distortions.

Problems Solved

This innovation addresses issues related to image quality, color accuracy, and distortion in display panels, providing a solution to improve overall viewing experience for users.

Benefits

The use of multiple compensation layers helps to optimize light transmission, reduce glare, and enhance color reproduction, resulting in sharper and more vibrant images on the display panel.

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology has potential applications in the consumer electronics industry, particularly in the manufacturing of high-quality display devices for a wide range of products.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of single compensation layers in display devices to improve image quality and reduce distortion. However, the specific combination of multiple compensation layers as described in this patent application may be a novel approach to addressing these issues.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes: a display panel and an optical member positioned on the display panel. The optical member includes: a polarization layer positioned on the display panel; a first compensation layer positioned between the display panel and the polarization layer; a second compensation layer positioned between the display panel and the first compensation layer; a third compensation layer positioned between the display panel and the second compensation layer; and a fourth compensation layer positioned between the display panel and the third compensation layer. The first compensation layer is a positive C plate and a thickness direction phase delay value of the first compensation layer is about −65 nm to about −15 nm, and the second compensation layer is a positive A plate and an in-plane phase delay value of the second compensation layer is about 75 nm to about 125 nm.
