Connector with Water Ingress Protection Cover - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18216322 titled 'Connector with Water Ingress Protection Cover

Simplified Explanation

The embodiment connector with a water ingress protection cover includes a female connector with a housing, a pair of guide holes, and a first body, a male connector, a first cover, and a second cover. The first cover is movable along the guide holes and can be positioned over the first body during coupling, while the second cover is coupled to the first cover when the male connector is connected to the female connector.

  • Female connector with housing, guide holes, and first body
  • Male connector
  • First cover movable along guide holes
  • Second cover coupled to first cover
  • Protection against water ingress

Potential Applications

The technology can be used in various electrical or electronic devices where connectors need protection against water ingress, such as outdoor equipment, marine electronics, or automotive applications.

Problems Solved

This innovation solves the problem of water ingress into connectors, which can lead to corrosion, short circuits, and malfunction of electrical systems. By providing a protective cover, the connectors are safeguarded against water damage.

Benefits

- Increased reliability of electrical connections - Extended lifespan of devices - Reduced maintenance costs due to protection against water damage

Potential Commercial Applications

"Water Ingress Protection Cover for Connectors: Enhancing Durability and Reliability"

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing patents or products related to water ingress protection for connectors, but specific prior art is not provided in this abstract.

Unanswered Questions

How does the first cover move along the guide holes?

The abstract does not specify the mechanism or method by which the first cover is able to move along the guide holes of the female connector. This detail would be important for understanding the functionality of the connector system.

What materials are used for the protective covers?

The abstract does not mention the materials used for the first and second covers that provide protection against water ingress. Knowing the materials could give insights into the durability and effectiveness of the protection mechanism.

Original Abstract Submitted

An embodiment connector with a water ingress protection cover includes a female connector including a housing having a pair of guide holes extended along a first direction at both sides thereof and a first body extended from the housing, a male connector, a first cover mounted to an upper part of the female connector to be movable along the pair of guide holes, and a second cover mounted to an upper part of the male connector. The first cover is configured to move in the first direction to a position over the first body by the second cover or the male connector during coupling of the male connector to the female connector, and the second cover is positioned over the housing and coupled to the first cover in a state in which the male connector is coupled to the female connector.
