APPARATUS FOR MANAGEMENT A DRIVING DISTANCE OF AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18201969 titled 'APPARATUS FOR MANAGEMENT A DRIVING DISTANCE OF AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a mileage management apparatus for an electric vehicle that can determine if the vehicle can reach its destination based on the state of charge of the high voltage battery. It can limit power consumption of high voltage loads if the vehicle cannot complete the journey, and can provide heat to the user by driving low voltage loads based on indoor temperature decrease.

  • Processor determines if vehicle can reach destination based on battery charge
  • Limits power consumption of high voltage loads if travel is not possible
  • Provides heat to user by driving low voltage loads based on indoor temperature decrease

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in electric vehicles to optimize mileage and provide comfort to users by managing power consumption and temperature control.

Problems Solved

1. Range anxiety in electric vehicles due to uncertainty about reaching destinations. 2. Lack of efficient heating systems in electric vehicles.

Benefits

1. Increased confidence in reaching destinations without running out of battery. 2. Improved user comfort through effective temperature control.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimized mileage management systems for electric vehicles can be marketed to electric vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators to enhance the efficiency and user experience of their vehicles.

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include similar systems for managing power consumption and temperature control in electric vehicles, but the specific combination of features described in this patent application may be novel.

Unanswered Questions

How does the processor determine the degree of decrease in indoor temperature to drive low voltage loads for heating purposes?

The abstract mentions that the processor can drive low voltage loads depending on the degree of decrease in indoor temperature to provide heat to the user. However, it does not elaborate on the specific method or sensors used to measure this temperature change.

What types of high voltage loads are typically present in electric vehicles that may need power consumption limitation?

The abstract mentions limiting power consumption of high voltage loads if the vehicle cannot complete the travel. It would be interesting to know what specific high voltage loads are commonly found in electric vehicles that may need to be managed in such situations.

Original Abstract Submitted

A mileage management apparatus for an electric vehicle, includes a processor configured to determine whether the vehicle can complete a travel to a destination thereof by use of a mileage based on a state of charge (SOC) value of a high voltage battery, to limit power consumption of a load having a voltage higher than a predetermined voltage when the processor concludes that the vehicle cannot complete the travel, and to drive a load having a voltage lower than the predetermined voltage depending on a degree of a decrease in an indoor temperature of the vehicle to provide heat to a user, and an interface device communicatively connected to the processor and configured to display whether the completion of the travel is possible.
