IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18189197 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The image forming apparatus described in the patent application includes multiple image holding bodies for different colors of toners, an intermediate transfer body, a waste toner collection unit, a waste toner developing unit, and a control unit. The waste toner collection unit collects toners remaining on the intermediate transfer body as waste toner. The waste toner developing unit uses the collected waste toner to develop a toner image on one of the image holding bodies. The control unit triggers the waste toner developing unit to develop the toner image when a predetermined condition about the ratio of waste toner of each color is met.

  • Image forming apparatus with multiple image holding bodies for different toner colors
  • Waste toner collection unit collects remaining toners as waste toner
  • Waste toner developing unit uses collected waste toner to develop toner image
  • Control unit triggers waste toner developing unit based on predetermined waste toner ratio condition

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various printing and copying machines to improve toner usage efficiency and reduce waste.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient utilization of waste toner 2. Reduction of toner waste in printing processes

Benefits

1. Cost-effective printing operations 2. Environmentally friendly by reducing toner waste

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing toner usage in commercial printing machines

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to waste toner collection and utilization in printing machines, but specific examples are not provided in the patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does the control unit determine the predetermined condition for triggering the waste toner developing unit?

The patent application does not specify the exact criteria or parameters used by the control unit to determine when to trigger the waste toner developing unit.

What is the expected impact of this technology on overall printing costs for businesses?

The patent application does not provide information on the potential cost savings or financial benefits that businesses can expect from implementing this technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes plural image holding bodies that are provided for respective colors of toners and hold toner images having the respective colors, an intermediate transfer body onto which the toner images having the respective colors held by the plural image holding bodies are transferred, a waste toner collection unit that collects toners remaining on the intermediate transfer body as a waste toner in a case where the toner images having the respective colors transferred onto the intermediate transfer body are transferred onto a recording material, a waste toner developing unit that uses the waste toner collected by the waste toner collection unit to develop a toner image on an image holding body of the plural image holding bodies or the other image holding body of the plural image holding bodies, and a control unit that performs a control to cause the waste toner developing unit to develop the toner image in a case where a predetermined condition about a ratio of a waste toner having each color to the waste toner stored in the waste toner collection unit is satisfied.
