DISPLAY DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18165182 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device with a display panel and a circuit board. The display panel has pixels, panel pads, and power line patterns, while the circuit board has substrate pads, electrostatic discharge protection circuits, power patterns, and ground patterns.

  • The display panel includes pixels, panel pads, and power line patterns.
  • The circuit board includes substrate pads, electrostatic discharge protection circuits, power patterns, and ground patterns.
  • The first power voltage is applied to the panel pads and the second panel.
  • The first power voltage is also applied to the pixels through the second substrate pad and the first power line pattern.
  • The circuit board has an electrostatic discharge protection circuit connected between the substrate pads.
  • The substrate power pattern is electrically connected to the first substrate pad.
  • The ground pattern receives a ground voltage.
  • Another electrostatic discharge protection circuit is connected between the substrate power pattern and the ground pattern.

Potential Applications

  • Display devices for electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and televisions.
  • Monitors and screens for computers and laptops.
  • Public display systems for advertising and information dissemination.

Problems Solved

  • Protection against electrostatic discharge to prevent damage to the display panel and circuit board.
  • Efficient power distribution to the pixels for optimal display performance.
  • Reliable grounding to ensure stable operation of the display device.

Benefits

  • Enhanced durability and reliability of the display device.
  • Improved power distribution and performance of the pixels.
  • Effective protection against electrostatic discharge for prolonged lifespan.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a first panel pad, and a second panel pad and a circuit board including a first substrate pad and a second substrate pad to apply a first power voltage to the first panel pad and the second panel. The display panel further includes a first power line pattern connected to the second substrate pad to apply the first power voltage to the pixels and a second power line pattern connected to the first substrate pad. The circuit board includes a first electrostatic discharge protection circuit connected between the first substrate pad and the second substrate pad, a substrate power pattern electrically connected to the first substrate pad, a ground pattern receiving a ground voltage, and a second electrostatic discharge protection circuit connected between the substrate power pattern and the ground pattern.
