ENHANCEMENT OF FLEXIBILITY TO CHANGE STS INDEX/COUNTER FOR IEEE 802.15.4Z - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18161771 titled 'ENHANCEMENT OF FLEXIBILITY TO CHANGE STS INDEX/COUNTER FOR IEEE 802.15.4Z

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method and apparatus for a wireless communication system. Here is a simplified explanation of the patent application:

  • The first network entity in a wireless communication system identifies a set of bit strings to generate a ranging scrambled timestamp sequence (STS).
  • The first network entity also identifies an initialization vector (IV) field corresponding to the set of bit strings. The IV field is a 4-octet string.
  • The first network entity generates a ranging STS key and IV information element (RSKI IE) that includes the IV field. This RSKI IE conveys and aligns a seed used to generate the ranging STS.
  • The first network entity transmits the generated RSKI IE to a second network entity, which updates its ranging STS based on this information.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems: This method and apparatus can be used in various wireless communication systems to improve the ranging process between network entities.
  • Mobile networks: It can be applied in mobile networks to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of ranging STS generation and synchronization.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Improved ranging process: The method and apparatus provide a more efficient and accurate way to generate and update ranging scrambled timestamp sequences between network entities.
  • Enhanced synchronization: By aligning the seed used for ranging STS generation, the technology improves synchronization between network entities in a wireless communication system.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved efficiency: The method and apparatus streamline the ranging process, reducing the time and resources required for generating and updating ranging STS.
  • Enhanced accuracy: By aligning the seed, the technology ensures better synchronization between network entities, leading to more accurate ranging results.
  • Better network performance: The improved ranging process and synchronization contribute to overall better performance of wireless communication systems and mobile networks.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method and apparatus of a first network entity in a wireless communication system is provide. The method and apparatus comprises: identifying at least one set of bit strings to generate a ranging scrambled timestamp sequence (STS); identifying at least one initialization vector (IV) field corresponding to the at least one set of bit strings, wherein the at least one IV field comprises a 4-octet string; generating a ranging STS key and IV information element (RSKI IE) that includes the at least one IV field to convey and align a seed that is used to generate the ranging STS; and transmitting, to a second network entity, the generated RSKI IE for updating the ranging STS of the second network entity.
