Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Method of Controlling Same - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18158087 titled 'Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Method of Controlling Same

Simplified Explanation

An embodiment hybrid electric vehicle includes a battery, a bidirectional power conversion device connected to the battery, a battery control unit, an engine control unit, and a motor control unit.

  • The battery control unit outputs a charge power instruction when the state of charge (SOC) of the battery is at a first reference value or less in a battery power output mode.
  • The engine control unit drives the engine when the SOC of the battery is at the first reference value or less.
  • The motor control unit drives a motor to generate electricity using power from the engine and charge the battery based on the received charge power instruction.

Original Abstract Submitted

An embodiment hybrid electric vehicle includes a battery, a bidirectional power conversion device connected to the battery, a battery control unit configured to output a charge power instruction when a state of charge (SOC) of the battery is a first reference value or less by determining the SOC of the battery in a battery power output mode in which power of the battery is output to the outside through the bidirectional power conversion device, an engine control unit configured to drive an engine when the SOC of the battery is the first reference value or less, and a motor control unit configured to, when the charge power instruction is received, drive a motor such that the motor generates electricity using power from the engine and the battery is charged based on the received charge power instruction.
