ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF BATTERIES AND METHOD FOR PROTECTING THE BATTERIES IN THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18156400 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF BATTERIES AND METHOD FOR PROTECTING THE BATTERIES IN THE SAME
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a method for protecting a battery in an electronic device that has multiple batteries. The method involves measuring the total current output from a charging module while the batteries are being charged. It then detects the current output to a specific battery through a current limiter and calculates the difference between the total current and the current to estimate the current transferred to another battery without passing through a current limiter. Based on this estimated current, the method controls the current of the second battery by controlling the opening and closing of a switching module in the battery's protection circuit module.
- The method measures the total current output from a charging module during battery charging.
- It detects the current output to a specific battery through a current limiter.
- The method calculates the difference between the total current and the current to estimate the current transferred to another battery without a current limiter.
- It controls the current of the second battery based on the estimated current by controlling a switching module in the battery's protection circuit module.
Potential Applications
- This method can be applied in various electronic devices that use multiple batteries, such as smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.
- It can be useful in ensuring the safe and efficient charging and discharging of batteries in these devices.
Problems Solved
- This method addresses the issue of uneven current distribution among multiple batteries in an electronic device.
- It solves the problem of overcharging or over-discharging of batteries by controlling the current flow to each battery individually.
Benefits
- The method helps in protecting the batteries from damage by ensuring balanced current distribution.
- It improves the overall performance and lifespan of the batteries.
- This technology enhances the safety of electronic devices by preventing overcharging or over-discharging of batteries.
Original Abstract Submitted
A method for protecting a battery of an electronic device including a plurality of batteries, includes: measuring a total current (I) value output from a charging module while the plurality of batteries are charged via the charging module; detecting a first current (I) value output to a first battery via a current limiter; calculating a difference between the total current (I) value and the first current (I) value to estimate a second current (I) value transferred to a second battery without passing through any current limiter, where the first battery and the second battery are included in the plurality of batteries; and controlling, based on the estimated second current (I) value, a current of the second battery, which has the second current (I) value, by controlling opening/closing of a switching module included in a protection circuit module of the second battery.
