DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18155052 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device that consists of two display areas with different pixel arrangements and transmission areas. The device also includes signal lines corresponding to each pixel column.

  • The display device has a first display area with a matrix of pixels and a second display area with a different matrix of pixels.
  • The first and second display areas are separated by transmission areas.
  • Each pixel column in the display device is associated with a first signal line and a second signal line.
  • In each pixel column, one of the signal lines extends over both the first and second display areas, while the other signal line is not present in the second display area.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Consumer electronics: This display device can be used in various consumer electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and televisions.
  • Automotive displays: The technology can be implemented in vehicle displays to provide enhanced visual experiences for drivers and passengers.
  • Virtual reality and augmented reality: The display device can be utilized in VR/AR headsets to deliver high-quality and immersive visuals.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient use of display area: The separation of the first and second display areas allows for different pixel arrangements, enabling more efficient utilization of the available display space.
  • Simplified signal routing: By having one signal line extend over both display areas, the complexity of signal routing is reduced, leading to simplified device design and manufacturing.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved display quality: The different pixel arrangements in the first and second display areas can enhance image quality and provide better visual experiences.
  • Space-saving design: The efficient use of display area and simplified signal routing contribute to a more compact and space-saving design for the display device.
  • Versatile applications: The technology can be applied to various electronic devices and industries, offering flexibility and adaptability.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a first display area including a plurality of first pixel areas, a second display area including a plurality of second pixel areas and a plurality of transmission areas, a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix form in the first and second display areas, and a first signal line and a second signal line disposed to correspond to each pixel column in the plurality of pixels. In each pixel column, one of the first and second signal lines may extend over the first and second display areas, and a remaining one of the first and second signal lines may not be disposed in the second display area.
